THE DIAMANTE'S PERFORMANCE...

Step on the accelerator, and the
passing scenery turns into an impressionist landscape.
It should come as no surprise that the
Diamante has outstanding acceleration. This luxury performance sedan has the largest
engine in its class.1 The 3.5-liter, 24-valve V6 generates 231 foot-pounds of
torque for immediate response and relaxed cruising. Press the accelerator further, and the
engine emits a distant, high-pitched hum as it revs with precision to 210 horsepower.
Whether you're merging with traffic or passing on a two-lane highway, the Diamante's
engine gives you quiet, effortless reserves of power.
With its sophisticated computer controls, the Diamante's transmission quickly adapts
to your driving style. If you accelerate aggressively, the transmission shifts at higher
engine speeds for top performance. If you accelerate modestly, the transmission shifts at
lower speeds for greater economy and smoothness. In either case, the engine and
transmission carry on an electronic dialogue to ensure that each shift is smooth and
coordinated.
The Diamante uses the same type of precise power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering that
you find on our high-performance sports cars. This steering system actually reduces power
assistance at higher speeds to give you improved road feel and a greater sense of
stability. And yet at lower speeds, the power assistance is increased to make parking
maneuvers seem effortless. It's truly the best of both worlds.
The Diamante has a front suspension composed of large diameter struts and resilient
coil springs. These components are engineered to soak up uneven pavement without jostling
the car. The result is a refreshingly calm and gentle ride. And yet when you turn into a
corner, the Diamante reacts with control and composure because this suspension also has a
serious talent for holding the road.
Referred to as multi-link suspension, the Diamante has a network of steel arms that
control and discipline the rear wheels. Whether you're accelerating, braking or traveling
on rough roads, the suspension keeps the tires firmly in contact with the pavement. But
because there's strength in numbers, the individual suspension arms don't have to be quite
so strict, resulting in a relaxed ride that doesn't sacrifice control.
When you head out into the country and the roads begin to twist and turn, the
Diamante's front and rear stabilizer bars are in their element. By providing an additional
link between the body and suspension, the stabilizer bars reduce the car's natural
inclination to lean in a corner. You may never see the stabilizer bars, but you're sure to
notice the Diamante's poise and balance
