SST Targa and Open-Air Roadster

Incorporating elements from classic architecture, sleek, high-speed trains and even the human bicep, the geo-mechanical styling of the SST Spyder and Targa is inspired by shapes and forms that represent strength, power and motion. This theme is expected to appear in future production vehicles from Mitsubishi Motors.

The concept is one in which every design aspect has a purpose. For example, ribbed sides ad structural integrity and house side guard door beams, while a series of grilles provide cooling for the engine and brakes and create a consistent design element. In keeping with this philosophy, the vehicle is constructed of materials, including composites and carbon fiber, which are in their rawest, purest form.

Engine

The Spyder is powered by a turbocharged, 250-horsepower 4-cylinder, the Targa by a turbocharged 210-horsepower 4-cylinder. Both are also compatible with the full range of Mitsubishi Motors' engines, including the 3.5-liter V6 which powers the Diamante luxury performance sedan and the luxury sport utility Montero.

Transmission
Four-speed automatic transmission may be operated conventionally, or as a manual through its sports mode and a flick of its billet aluminum shifter.

Suspension
Sophisticated, multilink four-wheel independent suspension provides spirited performance.

Tires and brakes
Massive 20-inch aluminum wheels and enormous racing brakes with multipiston calipers provide exceptional control and stopping power.

Exterior
Features "geo-mechanical" styling inspired by common shapes and forms that represent strength, power and motion.

Interior
Simple, uncluttered design incorporates only what is necessary for a spirited, open-air driving experience. Features large, electroluminescent gauges surrounding a large tachometer. Switches for the automatic climate control, the 650-watt audio system, communication, satellite and navigation systems have been incorporated into a single, computer controlled, interactive device. A large color monitor in the center console displays "virtual knobs" which are activated by an articulating disc-shaped control on the floor console. The Targa also features specially contoured sets and plenty of storage capacity.
