It may seem strange to go back to the drawing board for a V6 that’s won awards year after year. But for the 2000 Maxima, that’s exactly what our engineers did. They rerouted exhaust pipes, redesigned the muffler and retuned the cooling fans to cancel out each other’s noise. What did all this add up to? To start, 32 extra horses, not to mention 217 ft-lb of torque. Remarkably, the engine is also quieter, lighter, cleaner-burning and, thanks to 160,000-kilometre spark plugs,** more worry-free.
