1999 Nissan Sentra

How Does It Perform?
Designed for curves: Discover the joy of driving: the combination of independent front struts and the Maxima-inspired rear Multi-Link Beam® suspension will make you hunt out those really windy routes. And if the thought of parallel parking makes you perspire, sweat no more -- all Sentras include power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering and a tilt steering column for easy maneuvering (you'll just have to find some other way to work out your forearms).

Born to run: The XE and GXE feature a spirited 115-horsepower engine that's responsive and efficient -- efficient to the tune of 29 city/39 highway (manual) or 27 city/36 highway (automatic).* But if you need more get-up-and-go, just say so: the SE Limited comes with an eager-to-rev, 2.0 liter, 140-horsepower aluminum engine that will urge you to take the long way home.

Built to last: No doubt, you've got better things to do than visit the repair shop. Fortunately, the Sentra boasts "one of the lowest maintenance costs in its class."** A couple of reasons. 1: Unlike the timing belts used in competitors' engines, the Sentra's steel timing chain doesn't require periodic (and expensive) replacement. And 2: Microfinished crankshaft and camshafts in the XE and GXE reduce heat and vibration; this prolongs engine life and boosts power.

Let's Talk About the Interior.
Space: Got friends? The first thing you'll notice is head, leg and shoulder room for five - this is no lunchbox on wheels. And when it comes to carrying loads - even a month's worth of laundry -- the Sentra is equally accommodating: we designed the rear suspension to maximize trunk space, and the 60/40 split rear seat in the GXE and SE Limited folds down for snowboards, saxophones and other oversized items.

Interior

Stuff: When was the last time you treated yourself? Every SE Limited and GXE comes with standard air conditioning, AM/FM/cassette stereo, tilt steering wheel, cruise control and power windows, mirrors and door locks. The SE Limited also comes standard with a leather-wrapped steering wheel and manual transmission gearshift knob, plus the security and convenience of a remote keyless entry (optional on the GXE).

Seats: If it feels good enough to nap in, you know it will feel great to drive. The Sentra's front bucket seats are designed to match the curve of your back. And on the SE Limited, you get sport bucket front seats (optional on the GXE) with a sporty trim.

What About Safety?
Accident Avoidance: You've heard it a million times -- staying safe on the road begins with careful driving. But how well a car maneuvers is also extremely important. The Sentra's nimble handling and responsive steering react quickly to your demands, and the power front disc brakes (as well as rear discs on the SE Limited) help provide surefooted stopping under various conditions.

Impact Protection: When the unavoidable happens, the Sentra's occupant protection measures can help reduce the chance of injury in certain collisions. Every Sentra includes dual "Second Generation" air bags (which deploy with less force)*, pipe-style steel side-door guard beams, and crumple zones with hood buckling creases (which help prevent the hood from intruding into the passenger cabin).
