Detroit, Michigan --The Oldsmobile Recon is a highly innovative and uniquely stylish crossover vehicle featuring a new level of sophistication, functionality and expressiveness.
Recon further emphasizes Oldsmobiles newest marketing strategy which states consumers should "Stop Dreaming...Start Believing."
Recon is an extension of the already established Oldsmobile design cues: wheel-oriented shoulders, lower body-side flutes and horizontal head lamps. These characteristics began to carve the new identity of Oldsmobile when the Aurora was introduced in 1994 and are more prevalent in the Intrigue and Alero. Recon was created using the latest math-based technologies. The design was developed in Alias design software that works in half the time and half the cost of traditional design methods.
"We really changed the approach to designing cars with the computer-generation approach," said Tim Greig, vehicle chief designer, Oldsmobile Brand Character Studio. "There is so much technology at our fingertips now, it only makes sense to explore new avenues for quicker, more efficient ways to design automobiles. "
Most intriguing about the silver/blue matte Recon is the two-panel power sunroof which extends over both front and rear passengers. This open-air driving experience reconnects the driver and passengers to the world around them.
The minimalistic Recon is a very clean and structured design, developed to instill driving confidence in its occupants through sophisticated design and driving control. " This is a highly driver-oriented vehicle and, like all Oldsmobiles, the Recon was designed to have an expressive and rational character, letting the driver feel confident and controlled," said Peter Kosak, Oldsmobiles director of strategic planning. " When we designed the Recon, we wanted it to convey four characteristics: innovation, precision, sculpture and poise."
