DETROIT - With one of the
youngest buyer bases in the industry, Pontiac Sunfire continues to build on its
youth-oriented image with the introduction of the 1999 GT convertible.
Distinctive Front Fascia
Sunfire's GT convertible features the distinctive GT front fascia with round
directional signal lenses, GT-specific rear fascia, dual exhaust outlets and clecklist
spoiler.
Model Lineup
Sunfire's 1999 lineup includes the SE Coupe, SE Sedan, SE Convertible and GT Coupe, each
equipped with features and options normally reserved for bigger, more expensive cars.
Dual Next Generation air bags, antilock brakes and rear seat HVAC ducts and the
PassLock theft-deterrent system are standard on all Sunfire models.
Powertrains
Powertrain selections for the 1999
SE Coupe and SE Sedan include the standard
2.2-liter engine with a five-speed manual transmission. This combination yields an EPA fuel economy rating of 24 city/34 highway. The 115-horsepower 2.2-liter
engine is also available with a three-speed automatic or a four-speed automatic
transmission.
The 2.4-liter Twin Cam engine with a
five-speed manual transmission is the standard powertrain for the 1999 Sunfire GT coupe.
This 150-horsepower engine generates 155 lb-ft of torque for great acceleration and
freeway merging. This combination is also available on the SE coupe and SE convertible.
The 4T4O-E four-speed transmission
includes Pontiac's Enhanced Traction System, a form of traction control that promotes
traction by reducing engine power when one of the front wheels begins to spin. The
standard four-speed automatic transmission can be mated to the standard 2.2-liter
four-cylinder engine or the available 150-horsepower 2.4-liter 16-valve Twin Cam engine.
