SATURN FAST FACTS: COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS

An important part of Saturn's business philosophy is "to meet the needs of our neighbors and communities in which we live and operate. " Highlights of some of the significant partnerships that show a spirit of teamwork where business plays an important thread of a community's fabric. For Saturn and its retailers, giving back to the community is one more critical element of the "Saturn Difference. "

Inner-City Youth (ICY) Racing - Race car driver Dave Rosenblum believes in second chances. As a recovering drug abuser, he knows how easy it is to end up on the wrong road. To become sober, he had to leave his old way of life behind and start over. The one habit he couldn't kick was the thrill of racing. He leveraged that enthusiasm and created the Inner City Youth Racing Team.

For 14 years, Rosenblum has hand-picked 12 teens from Edison High School in Philadelphia to be members of his pit crew. Working with the school, Rosemblum selects kids who are headed in the right direction-they stay out of trouble, attend school every day, get passing grades and do not use drugs. While working as a member of the pit crew, these kids gain knowledge of cars, enthusiasm for racing and walk away with values like teamwork and personal responsibility. Rosenblum personally trains and mentors the 12 crew members, and also reaches hundreds of other students by visiting schools and youth organizations across the country.

Dave Rosenblum and co-driver Paul Booher race a slightly modified Saturn SC2 coupes in selected Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) races throughout North America. In 1997, the Saturn ICY Team won the Manufacturers' Championship. Saturn is proud of the ICY racing team's victories on the track, and pleased to see this talented team living and spreading the "Winning in Life" message.

National Donor Day - On Valentine's Day, February 14, Saturn retail facilities nationwide and their United Auto Workers partners joined America's leading donor organizations to encourage millions of Americans to give the gift of life. Dubbed " National Donor Day" this historic event was the first-ever, single-day national donation drive to raise awareness for the five ways to share life with others, or the "Five Points of Life," which are whole blood, platelets, umbilical cord blood, bone marrow, and organ and tissue donation. Nearly 8,000 people visited a Saturn retail facility on the First Annual Donor Day in 1998 to donate blood, sign an organ/tissue donor card and receive bone marrow testing,

Saturn Playgrounds - Saturn retailers donate their money, time and labor to construct children's playgrounds in areas of need. These "Saturn Playgrounds" have the newest, safest and most durable equipment that combines fun and the opportunity to develop both healthy bodies and the imagination. Since the project's beginning in 1993, over 100 playgrounds have been constructed in the United States and Canada and two little league baseball fields have also been built in Baltimore.

White House Presidential Scholars - Enacted through executive order by President Lyndon B. Johnson, this annual initiative recognizes approximately 140 of our country's brightest and most creative high school students and their teachers. Many of these honored scholars receive sendoff's from their local Saturn retailers, receiving community recognition and a "salute" from the Saturn team before they spend a special week in Washington, D.C. During this special week, scholars are honored at ceremonies at the White House with the President and at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. They also receive briefings with government leaders and tour our nation's historic capitol. This year, Saturn also hosted the second annual safe driving demonstration along with a product display.
