1999 SUBARU OF AMERICA

What's New????

Cherry Hill, NJ - Sales are still strong at Subaru of America, Inc.   Outback in all its derivatives continues to be the top-selling vehicle for Subaru selling alongside of Forester, which has attracted new buyers to the Subaru franchise.   The Legacy Sport Utility Sedan has joined the Outback family as the first 1999 model from Subaru.  First introduced in limited numbers for select markets in 1996 and 1997, the Legacy SUS was formally introduced at the 1998 North American International Auto Show and went on sale nationally at the completion of the show.

The Subaru all-wheel driving strategy is being further enhanced in 1999 by expanding our driving performance emphasis with vehicles like the Impreza 2.5 RS and Legacy 2.5 GT.   The Impreza 2.5 RS was first shown at the 1998 New York International Auto Show and features enhancements to its appearance and its performance.  The Legacy 2.5 GT receives a reworked five-speed manual transmission in addition to a completely new four-speed automatic.

Our hybrid utility vehicles, driving performance vehicles and the rest of the Subaru model line up all share a fundamental trait we call "active safety"~- a series of systems built into every Subaru made for the US market designed to help our drivers avoid accidents.  It all starts with our exclusive boxer (horizontally opposed) engines mated to longitudinally mounted transmissions with the best traction that are kept in contact with the road through a long stroke four-wheel independent suspension.

Below is a brief overview of what's new from Subaru in 1999.  Detailed information can be found elsewhere in this document that includes,  model specifications and features and detailed explanations of individual components and systems that separate Subaru from the rest.
