The Grand Vitara is the first and only SUV in its class to offer the additional power of a V6 engine. This 2.5 liter, 24-valve, Dual Overhead cam engine features:

• Forged crankshaft, die-cast aluminum lower crankcase and cylinder block, cast steel sleeves and aluminum cylinder head and head cover
• Sixty-degree "V" design engine delivers high output and low weight resulting in 155 horsepower at 6500 rpm and 160 lb.-ft. torque at 4000 rpm - plus an outstanding power-to-weight ratio of 20.5 to 1
• Hydraulic lifters and dual crossover induction system delivers increased torque and power for better fuel economy and overall performance
• Two-stage, self-adjusting timing chain that is more durable than rubber belts and allows faster, quieter, higher revving to reduce maintenance and extend the life of the engine.

Mated to this innovative V6 is a standard 5-speed manual or optional 4-speed automatic transmission with:

• Overdrive that features a lockup torque converter
• Power train including a two-speed transfer case (4WD model)
• New shift-on-the-fly four-wheel drive system (4WD model)

The Grand Vitara is built on a rugged, high tensile ladder-box frame:

• The body-on-frame construction rides on a smooth travelling 97.6-inch wheelbase
• All-new chassis features a sophisticated 5-link rear suspension
• Redesigned MacPherson strut front suspension for superior ride and handling on or off road
