SAN DIEGO, CA - The Suzuki Rock 'n' Roll Marathon will return to San Diego on Sunday, May 23, 1999.

The race will be held a full month earlier than in 1998. The marathon will once again start at historic Balboa Park and from there run a partially revised course that finishes at the Naval Training Center.

The marathon is limiting entries to 20,000, which includes 8,000 entries reserved for Leukemia Team in-Training participants. Last year, the Suzuki Rock 'n' Roll Marathon raised $15.6 Million for the Leukemia Society of America, setting a record for the most money raised by a single-day sporting event.

"The May date offers benefits for both the city and participants," said Race Director Tim Murphy. While runners will appreciate cooler temperatures, the City of San Diego and Convention and Visitors Bureau will benefit from staging the event before Memorial Day, when summer officially begins. Improvements are expected in hotel room availability and traffic impact.

The Second Annual Suzuki Rock 'n' Roll Marathon® features 26 bands along the course, a headliner concert, and three-day Expo. To receive an entry form, send a self-addressed, stamped envelope to:
