1999 TOYOTA CAMRY SEDAN:
AMERICA'S FAVORITE CAR KEEPS GETTING BETTER
For years the benchmark among mid-sized sedans, the Toyota Camry added a new chapter to its legacy last year by marching to the top of the American bestseller list. Over three-quarters of all Camry's sold were U.S. built at Toyota's manufacturing facility in Georgetown, Kentucky, making Camry a true American success story. For 1999, the best-selling car in America increases passenger protection and improves its value with additional new safety feature and enhanced convenience options.
Safety is addressed with the addition of Daytime Running Lights (DRL) with automatic on/off headlights for improved visibility. DRL is standard equipment on LE and XLE models and paired with Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS) as an option on the CE grade.
A front seat side-impact airbag supplemental restraint system (SRS) is available as an option on all Camry models. The side-impact airbags are designed to help reduce the likelihood of certain injuries to the driver or front passenger in the event of a severe side collision. Camry also comes standard-equipped with dual front and passenger airbags which conform to the latest federal safety standards.
Camry's energy-absorbing structure and soft upper interior trim help to provide maximum safety to its occupants. Other safety features include child protector rear door locks and three-point shoulder belts for all front and rear seat positions. Anti-Lock brakes (ABS) are standard equipment on LE V6 and XLE grades and optional on the LE four-cylinder and CE models.
New for 1999, Camry's five-speed manual transmission with overdrive can now be paired with the V6 engine on the LE grade. The five-speed manual with overdrive is also available with the four-cylinder engine on the CE model.
Exterior styling featuring sleek, sharp lines, giving the Camry a sophisticated and distinctive impression. An integrated front air dam combined with aerodynamic halogen headlights, chrome door belt and rear glass molding give Camry a smooth and sporty flair. The outside mirrors are color-keyed on the LE and XLE trim levels, with the XLE featuring heated mirrors and aluminum alloy wheels as finishing touches.
Camry's roomy interior is comfortable and makes exceptional use of its ample space. A folddown 60/40 split rear seat with separate headrests can accommodate passengers or cargo. For 1999, the CE grade receives an on-glass radio antenna and revised seat fabric with reclining bucket seats and adjustable headrests. Additional amenities include auto-off headlamps, dual front and rear cupholders, a covered center console with lockable illuminated glovebox, Deluxe electronically tuned radio (ETR) with four speakers and a front passenger overhead assist grip.
The LE models include several additional features. Front seats feature six adjustments for the driver (slide, recline and seat cushion height) and four adjustments for the passenger (slide and recline). Both front seats incorporate a four-way adjustable headrest. Cruise control, power door locks and windows, air conditioning and a Deluxe ETR with four speakers round out the impressive list of standard features.
Camry's top-of-the-line XLE offers an array of standard-equipped creature comforts. Both driver and front passenger adjustable power seats can be adjusted for slide, recline and vertical positions. The driver seat also includes a manual adjustment providing lumbar support. Additional standard equipment includes front seat map pockets, dualilluminated covered vanity mirrors, heated outside power mirrors, an anti-theft device with remote entry and engine immobilizer, premium ETR/CD with six speakers, leather wrapped steering wheel and premium grade seat fabric and door trim. For an extra dose of luxury, leather interior trim is available as an option.
In addition to its long list of standard features, Camry offers many available options for all trim levels with value-oriented accessory packages. All LE and XLE models can be enhanced with several options including power moonroof, traction control (V6, automatic transmission models only) and leather-trim packages.
The 1999 Camry is available in nine exterior colors. Three new colors include Vintage Red Pearl, Sable Pearl and Woodland Pearl. All exterior colors are complemented by coordinating two-tone interior in either Gray, Oak or Sage.
