Since 1951, the Land Cruiser's been going places so remote its reliability isn't just a matter of convenience, but survival. Places so isolated, the local languages are spoken only by a handful of tribespeople. And now, with its powerful 32-valve V8 engine, full-time 4-wheel drive, independent front suspension and spacious and luxurious interior, the Land Cruiser is ready to take you even farther afield.

The Land Cruiser's engine is the first V8 ever offered on a Toyota model in the U.S. - seems this vehicle's been everywhere, yet it's still breaking new ground.  The 4.7-liter V8 provides 230 horsepower, and the Land Cruiser is the first SUV in its class to incorporate dual overhead camshafts and 32 valves in its engine. A cast-iron block, vanadium steel crankshaft and aluminum connecting rod bearings help ensure durability. A tuned intake manifold and pent-roof combustion chambers improve efficiency and increase torque. Iridium-tipped spark plugs facilitate ignition under adverse conditions. And the Toyota Direct Ignition (TDI) System improves timing accuracy and overall reliability by eliminating the distributor.

There is literally only one Land Cruiser - a single model with a truly remarkable array of standard features:
