Toyota Motor Corporation to List on New York Stock Exchange
New York, NY - Toyota Motor Corp. announced that it plans to list its shares for trading on the New York Stock Exchange in the fall as American Depositary Receipts.
"We decided to commence preparation for the listing of our shares on the New York Stock Exchange in response to the globalization of our business," said Mr. Hiroshi Okuda, president of Toyota Motor Corporation. "We think it is necessary to create an environment that will provide easier access to Toyota's shares, and to foster further understanding of our company by investors, customers, business partners and regional communities worldwide."
"We are thrilled with Toyota's decision to list on the NYSE and pleased to welcome one of the world's most prominent brand names to the NYSE family," said Exchange Chairman and CEO Richard A. Grasso. "Toyota is not just a world-class automotive company and a household name, but an industry leader renowned for its customer commitment and community service. With its listing on the NYSE, Toyota will join the ranks of global companies that have truly global stocks -- easily accessible to investors in every time zone."
The NYSE has 12 Japanese companies currently listed. Toyota will become the Exchange's second largest Asian and Japanese-listed company, after Nippon Telegraph and Telephone, and will rank sixth among the non-U.S. NYSE-listed companies.
With the NYSE listing, Toyota will register with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for the first time. Prior to this, Toyota was one of a number of non-U.S. companies allowed to trade in the over-the-counter market as a "grandfathered" unregistered company.
The NYSE is the world's premier equities market and currently has approximately 3,090 listed companies from 48 countries with a total global market capitalization of $15.5 trillion that trade an average 825 million shares daily. Among them 372 are non-U.S. companies that trade an average 67.8 million shares daily valued at $2.7 billion.
