Ranking as one of the top race car drivers in the world, Danny Sullivan captured the hearts of many when he won the checkered flag and the 1985 Indianapolis 500 in dramatic fashion. His 360 degree spin to victory that Memorial Day weekend will long be remembered in the history of international sports.

Sullivan, a native of Louisville, Kentucky, had 17 career wins and ranked among the career leaders in race victories, poles, earnings, winning percentages, and top five finishes. Throughout his racing career, he is best known for his performances in Formula One, Indy Car and Le Mans Sports Cars.

Prior to his first season driving Indy cars (1984), Sullivan had the distinction of being the only American-born rookie to drive on the hard-paced but glamorous Formula One Grand Prix circuit. During the 1983 season, Danny drove for the Benetton Tyrrell Formula One Racing Team, finishing second at Brands Hatch and fifth in the Grand Prix on Monaco in a non-turbo charged car and ending the season as the top-placing rookie in F-1.

In just 12 years of driving Indy Cars, Sullivan had 17 wins, 19 poles, won the Indianapolis 500 in 1985 and captured the CART PPG National Driving Championship in 1988.

In 1995, after a horrible accident at the Michigan 500, Danny retired from Indy Car racing and set his sights on broadcasting. He has worked for ABC as the Color Commentator for the Indy Car Series for 1996, 1997 and 1998. His work has taken him around the world to Japan, Australia, Canada, Malaysia and Brazil. With his extensive experience and knowledge of racing and his unbridled enthusiasm for the sport, he has become as recognized a broadcaster to race fans as he was as a driver.
