Volvo Cars of North America Lends Aid to Southern California Commuters

ROCKLEIGH, NJ - Continuing its efforts to reduce vehicle emissions and traffic congestion in California, Volvo Cars of North America has provided a Southern California commuter assistance program with two clean-fuel vehicles to help enhance congestion relief and pollution prevention programs.

Volvo has loaned a bi-fuel gasoline/compressed natural gas V70 wagon and S70 sedan to Southern California Rideshare, a government organization that specializes in developing employee trip reduction programs for Los Angeles County and Ventura County businesses. In March, Volvo provided a long-term loan of a bi-fuel V70 wagon to a similar commuter assistance program in the San Francisco Bay Area, RIDES for Bay Area Commuters.

"We're very pleased and excited to be able to highlight the benefits of alternative fuel vehicles to Southern California commuters and employers," says Tricia Price, senior client services officer for Southern California Rideshare. "Our extensive network of contacts within this region's business community provides us with the perfect avenue to showcase the benefits of these vehicles along with our very compatible trip reduction programs."

Volvo's bi-fuel S70 sedan and V70 wagon, which run on either clean-burning compressed natural gas or unleaded gasoline, have been undergoing testing in the U.S. since early 1998. Although not currently available for sale as alternative fuel vehicles in the U.S. market, these vehicles are currently on sale to fleets in Europe, the United Kingdom, Japan, and Australia.
