Acura introduced its vision for the next generation of sport utility vehicle with the MD-X concept SUV at the 2000 North American International Auto Show. Featuring advanced technology and luxury amenities, the multi-dimensional MD-X concept offers performance and handling with off-road capability and utility.

"The MD-X concept is our interpretation of a no-compromise vehicle with sports sedan performance and SUV functionality," said Dick Colliver, executive vice president, Acura division. "The MD-X closely reflects the direction and focus of our new SUV which goes on sale this fall."

The MD-X provides an advanced look at the technology and utility concepts for the SUV of the future. Utilizing a sophisticated powertrain that also will be environmentally responsible, the future SUV will achieve excellent fuel efficiency with very low exhaust emissions. Power will be transferred to all four wheels through a state-of-the-art, automatic four-wheel-drive system for confident on-road performance and reassuring off-road capability.

The MD-X features distinctive Acura styling cues, including the pentagram front grille. The sleekly styled body complements the large diameter 18" wheels with specially designed Michelin tires, while a safari size glass moonroof allows for "open-air" visibility.

From the inside, a large greenhouse provides passengers with a commanding view of the outside surroundings, while four individual bucket seats and a tri-color earth-tone leather interior creates a comfortable and spacious passenger environment. In addition, brushed nickel accents, along with integrated hardwood and sisal flooring complement the Southwest-themed interior design. Ample storage space is available through separate front and rear center consoles along with flat passenger and rear cargo area floors for easy loading and access. As with other Acura vehicles, the MD-X concept also features state-of-the-art technology including a GPS satellite-linked Navigation System. The MD-X's integrated Cellular Internet access system rounds out the future technology equipment in this concept SUV.

The MD-X concept offers a glimpse at Acura's future multi-dimensional SUV, due in showrooms this fall. To be assembled at the Alliston, Ontario, Canada manufacturing facility, the future Acura SUV will incorporate many of the MD-X's conceptual elements to provide superior overall performance above any SUV currently available.
