The HCD I:  Back to the Future

Designed to capture the interest of sports car enthusiasts and driving aficionados looking for a sense of nostalgia, the HCD-I offers a rare combination of advanced technological features and traditional sports styling. A 150 horsepower, 2.0 liter DOHC 16-valve engine with variable timing, a removable targa top with fulldrop backlight glass, and oversized 17-inch wheels are just a few of the features that characterize the HCD-I as a serious sports car with the energy and thrill of a neo-classic roadster. The prototype HCD-I sports car was created specifically for the North American market, and may have a major impact on future product planning.

The HCD II:  Now This is Fun

Imagine yourself behind the wheel of a futuristic sports coupe powered by Hyundai's beta engine, an all-new 2.0 liter narrow-angle double overhead cam 16-valve 4-cylinder engine with a lightweight aluminum alloy block and ceramic impregnated cylinder bores. Picture the clean, elegantly executed interior made partly from a lightweight, high-strength carbon fiber composite material. Consider the unique 2+1 seating configuration that combines practicality with the aggressive and exciting presence of a true sports car. Feast your eyes on the sleek exterior styling, highlighted by a pinched mid-section, broad shoulders and solid sports car proportions. If you like the sound of the HCD-II, you're in luck. Many of its design and technological attributes will be appearing in Hyundai automobiles in the near future.

The HCD III:  Breaking New Ground

Developed at Hyundai's California Design Center, and HCD-III revolutionizes automotive design by combining the functions of a sporty performance car with the ruggedness of a sport utility vehicle into one on-road/off-road package. An adjustable ride suspension system adapts to either mountain terrain or smooth city streets at the touch of a button. An inline DOHC 4-cylinder 16-valve 2.0 liter engine with variable valve timing and intercooled turbo kicks out enough power for even the roughest off-road trek. And the full-time four-wheel drive and body made of a durable carbon fiber composite make it an astonishingly rugged automobile. But the car of the future is more than tough and durable. It's also luxurious. The sporty cockpit is refined and fluid much like a sporty passenger coupe, and the multi-configuration roll-top roof system can be automatically set to three separate positions. Using a sophisticated computer program, the futuristic "Navitac" navigational system can map out a destination at the touch of a button. And that's only the beginning.
