Plymouth Neon Turns Up Value, "Style" for 1999

Fresh from a series of significant changes and improvements for 1998, the Plymouth Neon enters 1999 offering an unbeatable combination of youthful styling, driving fun and unparalleled value within the highly competitive small car market.

"What sets Neon apart from the rest of the pack is that no other small car out there can offer such a high blend of power, styling, handling, value and overall 'fun-to-drive' quotient," said Joe Caddell, General Product Manager - Small Car Platform.

The Plymouth Neon "Style" package leads the lineup for 1999 with an impressive list of standard equipment and special colors, all for less than $14,000. Standard features include a power sun roof, cassette with compact disc changer controls, power windows, power door locks, power mirrors, leather shift knob and steering wheel cover, unique 14-inch wheel covers and special bright badging.

Under the hood of the Neon "Style" is a 2.0-liter, SOHC, 132 horsepower engine mated to a slick-shifting five-speed manual gearbox. A three-speed automatic is optional. Standard safety items include next-generation driver and front passenger air bags*, height-adjustable seat belts, locking front seat adjustable head restraints and dynamic side-impact intrusion protection.

The signature of the package is a list of unique colors not available on other Neons, including Inferno Red, Champagne and Deep Slate. Deep Cranberry, Bright Platinum and Forest Green, also offered as part of the "Style" package, are offered on other Neon models. Both Agate and Camel interior colors are available with special "Tango" premium cloth seat trim.

"The Style package gives Plymouth a Neon that not only has a distinctive appearance, but a complete range of features, all at a price that beats its competitors by literally thousands of dollars," said Ron Zarowitz, Neon Planning Executive. "This 'value with style' theme fits right in with the continued brand image development which has been going on at Plymouth for the last few years."

The 1999 Plymouth Neon starts out with high content, boasting a long list of standard features such as upgraded interior fabric, low-back bucket seats, rear window defroster, remote trunk release and fold-down rear seat. This package makes Neon an exceptional value.

The Neon "Expresso" package rounds out the offerings and includes special exterior graphics, 14-inch sport wheel covers, fog lamps and "Rumba/Tango" premium cloth interior. A 150 horsepower, 2.0-liter, DOHC engine is optional.

"A very well equipped Plymouth Neon can be had for the cost of most entry-level Japanese brand competitors," noted Caddell. "Dollar for dollar, Neon is tough to beat."
