THE 1998
MERCURY SABLE
WITH DESIGN FLAIR FOR EVERYONE
Design and engineering improvements plus more content and realigned prices for 1998 improve customer value and strengthen the appeal of the Mercury Sable, an upscale front wheel-drive sedan that delivers quality you can see, hear and feel. Sable appeals to buyers who want superb driving dynamics, advanced safety and security features, and design flair that reflects their individuality. For 1998, there are design revisions to the grille, taillamps and instrument panel appliques.
CUSTOMER MERCHANDISING STRATEGY - Buy The Sable Here
A new merchandising strategy aims to make it even easier to buy a Sable. In response to consumer research, Preferred Equipment Packages have been replaced by higher levels of standard equipment on both the Sable GS and the upscale Sable LS. A Premium Group is available on the Sable LS. The package includes the 200 horsepower Duratec engine, electronic automatic temperature control, an autolamp (automatic "on"/delayed "off'), dual illuminated visor vanity mirrors, a power antenna and remote keyless entry with two key fobs. The remaining free-standing options are items customers show a strong preference for, such as audio systems, a moonroof and leather seat trim. The Sable LS is available as either a sedan or wagon; the GS is available only in the sedan body style.
POWERTRAINS - Buy The Sable Here
The 145 h.p., 3.0-liter Vulcan V-6 now is standard on both the Sable GS and LS, while the 200 h.p. Duratec 3.0-liter DOHC 24-valve V-6 is an attractively priced option on both. Both engines feature 100,000 mile tune-up intervals. Throttle response of the Duratec is improved by two powertrain adjustments: a higher stall speed torque converter and a new axle ratio that accelerates the climb to cruising speed, without loss of fuel economy. The patented SecuriLock anti-theft system is included with the Duratec engine. If anything other than the correctly coded key is used in an attempt to start the engine, SecuriLock will immobilize the vehicle.
SAFETY AND COMFORT - Buy The Sable Here
Sable's safety features include standard reinforced side-door guard beams that resist side intrusion, 5-mph bumpers and second-generation dual air bags. For 1998, a new single point sensor is used to trigger the air bags. Anti-lock brakes are offered as an option. Split/fold rear seats give Sable sedans more flexibility to handle items such as skis and golf clubs, and the patented flip/fold center console easily converts from a multi-function storage system and arm rest to a center seat. A new optional fixed console with storage bin also is available on the Sable GS and a power passenger seat now is optional on the Sable LS.
