Ready to Buy a Car

Don’t Rush In

  1. One of the things that you need to know is how much do you think that the dealer paid for the car. This will help you to get to the bottom line price that you are willing to pay. You will have to find out the dealer’s cost and or the invoice price. You can check here   for this information It will provide a printout of the complete pricing of the car with all the options, and spells out everything for you in plain English.
  2. When you finally decide on the type of car you wish to purchase, try and go to at least three different dealers. You want to find the best deal that you can. Some dealers may offer different incentives at a different time. You can also check your local paper to see when they are offering these incentives.
  3. Always check for alternate financing options before settling on what the dealer is offering.  You may get a better rate from you credit union or bank.
  4. Tell the dealer that you would like the best price for the car you want " Now" and that you will be back to see him if he gives you the lowest price. Try not to let them to get you to name your price or what you willing to pay for your dream car, having the invoice price will give you the advantage.
  5. You will not want to put down a deposit on a car and be pressured into buying it then and there.   Take your time and shop around and compare. You want to make sure that you are going to get the best and fairest price in town.
  6. Do not rush to buy a car, this is the fastest way to pay too much.

Getting A Fair Price

Did you know that very car sold in the US, Must display in its car window a " Monroney" car sticker showing the manufacturers suggested retail price for the car and all of  it's options! Many of the car dealers also affix a second price sticker that contains items that have been added to the the dealership.  Since October 1, 1994, Federal law requires that all cars also display a parts content label, which can appear as a separate sticker.  Women car shoppers can check out an auto pricing book and safety reports, but we do not spend enough time actually trying out our new car before we buy it.

  1. Do you know how much a fair price should be? How much over the manufacture invoice should you have to pay? This can depend on the model of car you would like to buy, but it can be around 4 to 8 % over the invoice price minus any rebates that they are offering at the time. Some of the models for the last year may even sell for a less.
  2. One of the best way is to find out the supply and demand for the car you want is to go to a few different dealers and see how may of the cars you are looking for (the model) are on the lot. Then check out the prices of all the different dealers. A dealer will lower the price on a car which is overstocked.
  3. One of the other things to watch out for is the advertising charge that some of the dealers can impose and pass on to you. This charge is usually anywhere from $ 200 to $ 400 and does not always show up on your price guides. You will want to try and negotiate this if you can. If the charge id to high you might want to look at a different model of car.
  4. You may also want to check out the destination charges which is the cost of shipping the car from the factory to your dealer. It is a true charge.

Do You Have A Trade In?

  • Do you know that you can get a better price if you advertise or sell your used car yourself? You can get an idea as to how much your car is worth on our autoworld.com site at http://www.autoworld.com. We will even make a sticker for your car to sell it yourself if you would like. And it’s fun too!
  • When you are ready to shop for a new car, you can go to a few dealers and ask them what they will you for your used car in cash. This should give you a good idea of the wholesale value of your car for a trade in.
  • If you are going to sell your car yourself, you will want to make sure that it will be in the best possible condition. Check to see if it needs and repairs before you sell it. A good waxing and cleaning job will help too! But if you are trading in the car, don’t bother, the dealer will have it repaired and detailed before they put it on the lot.
  • One last thing to remember, the best and easiest and most economical way to buy a car is to pay cash.

Taking Your Car Home
