1998 MERCURY TRACER
THE SMALL CAR THAT
THINKS BIG
The 1998 Mercury Tracer's improved four-speed automatic transaxle delivers smoother shifting and better response while other equipment upgrades offer greater convenience and benefit the environment. Offered in GS and LS trim levels and both sedan and wagon bodystyles, Tracer is the small car that thinks big - practical and affordable, yet offering refined driving characteristics, clean design, and the efficient interior space of a larger vehicle. For 1998, basic content has been realigned to provide improved value and a simplified purchase process. Tracer was re-engineered last year with a new 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, a fresh exterior appearance and a more refined chassis. Thanks to its advanced emissions control technology, Tracer was one of the first cars in the country to be certified as a Low Emission Vehicle by the California Air Resources Board.
IMPROVED FOR 1998 - Buy The Tracer Here
Improvements continue for 1998. The four-speed electronically controlled automatic transaxle is smoother when shifting and offers a more athletic response. A sensor has been added to the SOHC split-port-induction engine to reduce knocking during high-load operating conditions. Non-tailpipe hydrocarbon emissions generated by driving and refueling have been reduced. To make the Tracer more visible in traffic to drivers and pedestrians alike, side marker lamps now flash in synch with front turn signals. The premium sound system introduced last year as an exclusive LS sedan option now is a free-standing upgrade. An 85-watt stereo amplifier is part of the package.
HIGHER EQUIPMENT LEVELS - Buy The Tracer Here
As part of Mercury's effort to enhance customer value, standard equipment levels are higher on both GS and LS series. Additions to GS include a 60/40 split-fold rear seat, upgraded interior trim, and an expanded exterior color selection. New standard equipment for the 1998 Tracer LS includes air conditioning, a rear defroster, dual power mirrors, and a driver's-door remote entry system. In addition, the Tracer LS Wagon now includes as standard a cargo cover, luggage rack and rear wiper/washer. For customer convenience, popular options have been gathered into groups labeled with an easily understood descriptive theme. Tracer LS buyers now may select a Power Group, a Comfort Group, and a Sport Group. Tracer GS buyers may select a Trio Appearance Group, which includes chrome wheel covers, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and a rear spoiler. For 1998, chrome wheel covers are offered as an attractive option and both the interior and exterior color palettes are slightly modified. On the outside, Atlantic (deep) Blue and Medium Pewter Gray replace Royal Plum and Boysenberry. Medium Prairie Tan replaces Tracer's Saddle interior trim fabric. Mercury Tracer customers say they look for five basic attributes in a small car- a roomy interior, comfort for up to five passengers, a smooth and quiet ride, responsive acceleration and highly refined all-around drivability. Value-conscious singles, couples, and young families are among Tracer customers.
